Protecting Our Children and School Staff from Cell Tower Radiation
We are a group of concerned parents, educators and property owners living in the Town of Bethlehem, New York who are extremely concerned with the health affects of microwave radiation on our children and strongly disagree with the recent Bethlehem Town Board's plans to allow the construction of a microwave radiation emitting cell tower directly across from school buildings which daily house over 2,200 children, teachers and school staff.
Our recent work to stop a plan to place them on two of our elementary schools was successful (read more here). In December of 2010, plans by the school district to build a cell tower on the high school property, were also abandoned. But a plan to build one a few hundred feet from Eagle Elementary and across the street from the high school are still being considered by the Town of Bethlehem. Even though Town officials have seen the clear opposition to building the radiation emitting devices near our schools, the Town of Bethlehem Planning Board and Zoning Board have ignored resident concerns.
While the Bethlehem Central School District (BCSD) does not own the water tank on Kenwood Avenue, the Town of Bethlehem does. That water tank is now being used as a massive cell tower base with almost 24 cell antennas on it (photo above). The proposed 120 foot tower near Eagle Elementary and the Bethlehem High School will create the same dangers and unsightly views faced daily by students, teachers and staff at the Bethlehem Middle School.
Concerned residents are organizing to look at options available for removing the microwave antennas from from the Kenwood Avenue water tank. However, with the almost $100,000 in yearly revenue to the Town of Bethlehem for leasing the water tank to cell phone providers, our work will not be easy. You can help.
The water tank, pictured above is about 275 feet from the Bethlehem Middle school, exposing over 1,400 children, teachers, administrators and school staff to daily doses of dangerous pulsating microwave radiation.
Throughout this web site, you will find a variety of resources to familiarize yourself with the dangers of cell towers and tools to use to help you voice your concern to Town of Bethlehem officials and the Bethlehem School Board.
It is time we take the steps necessary to protect our children's health. An increasing number of health studies and reputable health organizations have been warning us to the dangers of microwave radiation exposure to children. Cancer clusters have been found in Europe around cell towers and European countries are moving to protect children from such devices.
We should not ignore the evidence any longer and demand that our local leaders consider the science and dangers before they sign deals with cell phone companies.
