Stop the Cell Tower Near Eagle Elementary & Bethlehem High School!
Town
residents, parents and homeowners near Eagle Elementary and the high school should
oppose the construction of the cell tower based on a variety of factors
which include; lowering property values, aesthetics factors, and the
warnings of health experts and scientists that tell us our children are
in danger from such devices.
While the according to federal law, health impact can not be considered as a reason for denying the siting of a cell tower, our local elected town board members and the people they pick to serve on the zoning and planning boards know our opposition and can use any other excuse to deny the construction of the cell tower. THE $100,000 QUESTION: ASK OUR TOWN BOARD WHY? One reason that should concern town residents is the fact that while the Town of Bethlehem is facing financial constraints, the Town Planning Board is about to allow a private landowner to earn almost $100,000 per year from leasing rights to cell phone companies from the tower being planned at 75 Van Dyke Road. (this is amount paid to town for its leasing of the Kenwood Avenue water tank to cell phone companies. The same companies will lease the proposed tower and that potential revenue will be lost to the town). With the vast open spaces in the town and with the town owning acres, why is the town passing the opportunity to raise that revenue for town services? |
Hold Town Leaders Accountable!
The Bethlehem Town Board, through both the Town's Zoning Board and Planning Board are moving to allow the
construction of a 120 foot, microwave radiation emitting cell tower directly
across from school buildings which daily house over 2,200 children,
teachers and school staff.
A plan to build one a few hundred feet from the Eagle Elementary and across the street from the Bethlehem High School is still being considered by the Town of Bethlehem. Even though Town officials have seen the clear opposition to building the radiation emitting devices near our schools (see here), the Town of Bethlehem Planning Board and Zoning Board have ignored resident concerns. The proposed 120 foot tower near Eagle Elementary and the Bethlehem High School will create the same dangers and unsightly views faced daily by students, teachers and staff at the Bethlehem Middle School. You can help stop this dangerous tower from being constructed near our schools. Contact town leaders and tell them you don't want cell towers near our schools. Tell our town leaders that you do not want a private landowner to earn $100,000 per year from cell phone fees that the town should be raising for town services!
